GNYC Training Extravaganza
GREATER NEW YORK COUNCILS TRAINING EXTRAVAGANZA (TrEx)
On Jan 6, 2018, nearly 350 scouters from the five boroughs gathered at the Borough of Manhattan Community College for a day of training courses and information sessions geared to help each person improve in their specific role in Scouting. The TrEx Committee and Instructors worked exceptionally hard to provide the best courses for scouts, leaders and parents while adding new and specialized content – many courses which were suggested by you!
Take a look below for the full 2018 Course Catalog
I already attended TrEx in the past and took the courses that were relevant to me.
This year’s TrEx saw 17 new courses added to the curriculum, including Down’n Derbies, Eagle Coach & Mentor Orientation, Planning an Eagle Court of Honor and Red Cross CPR/First Aid Training.
Over the last 3 years, nearly 60 new courses have been offered at TrEx in the areas of Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Sea Scouting, Venturing, Commissioner College, Technology, and courses specifically tailored toward youth.
I am mostly interested in attending courses that help me get “trained” for my position.
Our District Training teams handle many courses for position specific training, such as Scout Leader/ITOLS and Cub Leader/BALOO courses. However, TrEx offered 8 official BSA position trainings this year (including Merit Badge Counselor, District Committee, Unit Committee, Chartered Org Rep and ILST), and can add more. If you have suggestions, please let us know.
I might consider going to TrEx if they offered courses on topics that will help me.
If you have suggestions on courses we should cover, please submit them below.
Also, if you would like to instruct in a course, please let us know which course, or what area of courses you are most qualified to instruct. We are always looking for more help!
