Day Trip/Activity Guides The main reason that most boys join Scouting is adventure. Whether it's through camping the great outdoors or exploring their own city, fun is what keeps them in Scouting. A strong troop is a troop that has a good program that the Scouts develop themselves with the guidance of their Scoutmaster. Hiking along trails, canoeing across misty lakes, and camping under the open sky are experiences that Scouts enjoy and will never forget over their entire lifetime. But there is more to the "outing" in Scouting than just camping. There is fun to be had and things to be learned in our own backyard. New York has to be the greatest city in the world for things to do. This guide was created to share some of these opportunities with you. This guide is filled with only ideas. It is up to you to make them happen. The best way to do this is to share this information with your Scouts and let them plan what they want to do. Perhaps through a troop planning weekend (day) with the Senior Patrol Leader and the Patrol Leaders. The Scouts will have a much better time and learn more if they choose and plan the troop program themselves. - BRONX
