Taxes and Scouting

New York State has revised its procedure for issuing sales tax exemption certificates to Scout units. Individual units will no longer be issued their own tax-exempt certificate. Instead, each Scout unit will use the new certificate made out to: "GREATER NEW YORK COUNCILS AND ITS SCOUT UNITS." Units with existing Tax Exempt Certificates should stop using them. A new certificate can be obtained by CLICKING HERE. Once received, units should provide their local vendors with the new certificate and number.

As a reminder, your Tax Exempt Certificate can ONLY be used for UNIT PURCHASES. Using it for personal purchases or loaning it out to another person or organization is prohibited by law and can result in the revocation of the exemption. Substantial civil or criminal penalties will also result.
